The new Monday night lineup, which launched earlier this month, features three consecutive shows hosted by alumni who got their start at the station as students.

Although Leah Myers ’18 graduated from the University of New Haven earlier this year, she is still a regular voice on WNHU, the University of New Haven’s radio station. As a communication major, she hosted a Disney-themed radio show. Now an alumna, her show features alternative, classic rock, and adult contemporary music, along with traffic and weather reports. But, she says, listeners may still hear an occasional Disney song on her show.

Her show, which airs 5 to 7 p.m., is the first of three consecutive shows every Monday night that are hosted by alumni. Pete Sotere ’74, a founding member of WNHU, hosts a two-hour show beginning at 7 p.m. Damon Lucibello ’95 hosts "The Show with No Name," a music show, from 9 to 11 p.m.
Lucibello, who describes his show as "musically diverse," likes to play music that is not often heard on WNHU – often ambient, electronic, new age, and, sometimes, metal and punk. He has listened to WNHU since he was a high school student, hoping to one day host a show of his own.
"That dream became one of my main reasons for attending the University of New Haven," he said. "This month marks my 26th year of broadcasting at WNHU. I greatly enjoy exposing listeners to works from composers and artists that they may not be aware of or accustomed to."
AlumNight, which kicked off earlier this month, is a way for WNHU to dedicate a night of programming to alumni, an important part of its listener base. Many, like Lucibello, continue to be involved with the station, creating a connection that benefits both the alumni and current students.
"Alumni involvement with WNHU is rewarding and important because advice or expertise from an alum can be beneficial to a student aspiring to be a professional in the communications field – whether in radio or otherwise," said Lucibello.
Alumni in the West Haven area can listen by tuning in to 88.7 FM, while alumni from across the country or around the globe can listen on wnhu.org.
Myers says AlumNight is a great way for alumni to support WNHU – and the University.
"Staying involved as an alum helps continue the legacy you began as a student," she said. "Many alumni, including me, find satisfaction in giving time and money back to the University, to see students succeed through all of the opportunities the University has to offer."
